Fillmore Construction was awarded the new Roy Bickell Public School (K-8) in May 2016. Upon contract award Fillmore Construction realized that there could be some value to be gained for the client if some changes were made to the concrete floor slab. Due to the unfavourable under slab soils conditions, Fillmore was able to offer some savings on the excavation & backfill scope of work that would offset costs of upgrading the floor assembly to a structural slab on piles. When brought to the owner and design team, all were in agreement that this upgrade was favourable and would provide a high quality floor slab and lower the owners risk of slab movement which is very common in the Grande Prairie region. After re-design of the foundations and slab, construction began onsite in July with bulk excavation & piling. The school was on track to be completed on schedule at the end of July for student occupancy in September of 2017.
