Fillmore Construction was awarded the contract to construct $4.5M of beautiful decks, walking bridges, landscaped areas and playgrounds in Fort Chipewyan in the winter of 2014/15. Fort Chipewyan is a remote community of 800 people in northern Alberta only accessible by plane or barge in the summer months and an ice road in the winter months which makes building there very expensive and coordination intensive. To complete this project Fillmore Construction had to ship in over $400,000 in Ipe and Kebony hardwood originating from Brazil and Norway as well as $1M in screw piles, framing lumber, custom handrails and other materials on the ice road and then wait for three months until the ground started to thaw to start construction. The original designs were not possible in several areas so Fillmore Construction redesigned multiple components to make the final product as beautiful as possible
