MS BIKE TOUR – Leduc to Camrose

In 2006, Paul Paridaen—Field Operations Manager and Project Manager for Fillmore Construction—rode, for the first time, from Leduc to Camrose in the MS Bike Tour. Inspired by his example, the entire company of Fillmore Construction has happily participated in this extraordinary event since Paul’s first ride in 2006. Our team, The Happy Fillmores’, has grown larger and larger each year, and is currently the #1 fundraising team in Alberta, having raised $86,657.59 last year, and over $335,000.00 in the past 5 years!

In addition to our participation, we also sponsor the Riders Village.

Habitat for Humanity

In 2009, Fillmore Construction worked with Habitat for Humanity to construct ‘The Blitz Building’, a 3,600 square foot Sherwood Park duplex. With the help of 20 employees, Fillmore Construction framed the floor, walls, and roof all in one day.

Haddrell Residence

In 2010, Fillmore Construction learned about Carter Haddrell, a young boy affected by global developmental delay. In a letter, Carter’s mother outlined the difficulties of caring for her son in a house that was completely unequipped for a child with extensive mobility issues. Despite having a grant to get the necessary renovations done, the Haddrell’s were left with no one to execute the work after the first contractor backed out of the project. Despite the fact that Fillmore Construction does not traditionally work on residential projects, they made a special exception for the Haddrell family realizing that they could make a major difference in the quality of life for Carter and his family.

Fillmore Construction helped build a washroom that Carter could use, a vertical elevator on the deck, and widened all the doorways, making Carter’s home an easier place for him to live in. Thanks to the donated time and materials of the individuals listed below, there was $20,000 left over from the grant, which Fillmore Construction was able to donate to the MS Society

Terrawerx Mechanical Ltd – Ben Bennetti & Craig Nedved
Edmonton Electric – Steve Smith
Nelson Lumber – Walter Neufeld
Gienow Glass – Rick Zolmer

Unruh Residence

In 2007, Curtis—an employee at Fillmore Construction—was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and passed away quickly following his results. Curtis inspired everyone at Fillmore Construction with his ‘can-do’ attitude and positive spirit up until the end of his life. Fillmore Construction was so touched by Curtis’ gratitude and commitment that they spent three months and $70,000 adding a garage, driveway, sidewalks, fencing, landscaping, and a deck to his family’s home.
